Part of the ACMA’s mandate in Australia is to oversee businesses that offer services over the Internet to local residents, including offshore online casinos. To effectively manage and address regulatory violations, the media and communications agencies have a Complaints Hotline where Australian residents can share their complaints and from there ACMA can take action.

In the case of online casinos, if ACMA finds an error in the way operators offer services, it cannot directly block the URLs of the perpetrators, but rather send a formal request to the region’s ISPs to block websites.

What rules did the criminals break?

As a result of subsequent investigations, the Media Ombudsman found that 8 operators being kicked out of the Australian market were acting contrary to the provisions of Australia’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001.
